Patricia Nell Warren
Patricia Nell Warren (born June 15, 1936 in Helena , Montana ; died February 9, 2019 in Sherman Oaks , California ) was an American writer .
Life
Patricia Nell Warren grew up on the Grant Kohrs cattle ranch near Deer Lodge in Montana . She began writing as a teenager in the 1950s and has been publishing since 1959. From 1959 to 1981 she worked for Reader's Digest in New York City . Due to her collaboration on the Spanish Digest edition Selecciones , she stayed in Spain from 1964 to 1972 frequently .
Warren became known in the United States as a writer and also as the founder of Frontrunners , an LGBT sports club. The Frontrunners organization was inspired by Warren's novel The Front Runner . The first Frontrunners Club was founded in San Francisco in 1974 . The organization expanded over the years through the establishment of other sports clubs in major cities in the United States and internationally in other countries.
Warren traveled extensively as an LGBT activist to LGBT human rights group events and was very active on the issue in the United States. In 1998 she received the Editor's Choice award for Billy's Boy at the Lambda Literary Awards .
In December 2006, Warren announced her candidacy for the West Hollywood, CA local council, but failed to win enough votes.
