Patrick Pierre Roger Baudry (born March 6, 1946 in Douala , Cameroon ) is a former French astronaut .

Baudry was a fighter pilot in the French Air Force from 1970 until he was selected as an astronaut candidate by the French space agency CNES in 1980 .

Astronaut activity

Baudry trained for two years at the Yuri Gagarin cosmonaut training center in the Russian star city near Moscow . He was also the substitute for Jean-Loup Chrétien for the Soyuz T-6 Mission in 1982.

The Challenger flight STS-51-E was canceled due to problems with the IUS upper level. A TDRS satellite should have been deployed. The crew were Karol Bobko , Donald Williams , Rhea Seddon , David Griggs , Jeffrey Hoffman , the politician Jake Garn and Patrick Baudry as payload specialists.

STS-51-G

Baudry flew into space on June 17, 1985 as a CNES payload specialist on the STS-51-G mission with the space shuttle Discovery . In this communication satellites for Mexico ( Morelos ), the Arab League ( Arabsat ) and the US ( AT & T Telstar ) suspended. In addition, the SPARTAN satellite was launched and recaptured after 17 hours.
