Patrick Bruun

Patrick Magnus Bruun (born April 17, 1920 in Helsinki ; died June 30, 2007 in Turku ) was a Finnish ancient historian and numismatist .

Bruun was the son of Otto Bruun and Elsa Maria, née Inberg, and brother of the sociologist Kettil Brunn . Brunn, who received his doctorate in 1953 at the University of Helsinki with his thesis “ The Constantinian Coinage of Arelate ”, was cultural editor from 1952 to 1957 and from 1957 to 1960 editorial secretary at the Finnish newspaper “ Nya Pressen ”. From 1956 to 1972 he was a lecturer in Roman numismatics at the University of Helsinki, interrupted from 1965 to 1968 when he was director of the Institutum Romanum Finlandiae in Rome . In 1968 he was appointed to the Chair of General History at Åbo Akademi , the Swedish-speaking university in Turku , to which he was a professor until 1983 and whose Vice-Rector he was from 1969 to 1975.

Bruun found his research focus in Roman numismatics, especially in late antiquity . In 1966 he wrote the seventh volume of the novel Imperial Coinage , which covers the period of Constantinus I and Licinius (the years 313–337 AD).
