Patrick Buisson (born April 19, 1949 in Paris ) is a French journalist and political scientist . He is the director of the TV channel Histoire .

Life

Buisson grew up in a nationalist family home and, as a high school student, refused to take part in a minute's silence in memory of the victims of a deadly attack by the right-wing extremist terrorist group OAS , which wanted to violently prevent Algeria from becoming independent from France. During his studies at the University of Paris-Nanterre he became vice-chairman of the Fédération nationale des étudiants de France (FNEF) and formed the counterpart to the group "March 22nd Movement" initiated by Daniel Cohn-Bendit . Buisson was close to numerous right-wing politicians, such as Philippe de Villiers , with whom he was anchored in Catholicism and disliked the EU.

Buisson began advising Nicolas Sarkozy when he was interior minister. As a consultant, he was, according to Sarkozy, the right counterpart to Henri Guaino . The right-wing extremist Jean-Marie Le Pen , whom Buisson has known and valued since the 1970s, said of this role that Buisson gave Sarkozy the know-how to woo the voters of the Front National . Buisson himself declared that he deliberately wanted right-wing voters who had been disappointed by Jacques Chirac's liberal and pro-European course to bring the UMP back , and regards this as the secret of the success of Sarkozy's presidency.

A controversy that led to a broader perception of Buissons beyond the national borders of France, caused his book 1940-1945 Années érotiques - Vichy ou les Infortunes de la vertu , in which Buisson takes the thesis that the German occupation was a starting point for the sexual liberation of France.

In March 2014, sound recordings were made public that Buisson had made covertly during discussions with Sarkozy during his presidency.
