Patrick Gmür (2016)

Patrick Gmür (* 1961 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss architect and urban planner .

Life

After studying architecture at the ETH Zurich, Patrick Gmür ran his own architectural office in Zurich from 1989 to 2009 , until 1998 together with Regula Lüscher . He won numerous architecture competitions and made a name for himself in particular with residential and school buildings at home and abroad. His most important works in Zurich include the James and Paul-Clairmont-Strasse residential complexes, the “Hard Turm Park” skyscraper and the renovation and expansion of the Scherr schoolhouse ( see works ). In the area of residential construction and especially the floor plans, he made significant contributions to the specialist discussion in Zurich.

From September 1, 2009 to September 30, 2016, Gmür was Director of the City of Zurich Office for Urban Development. In this function, he was responsible for the content of the development and implementation of the regional spatial planning concept (ROK), the overall revision of the regional structure plan, the partial revision of the building and zoning regulations (BZO) and currently the creation of the municipal structure plan.

In addition to working on these planning instruments, Gmür was responsible for the urban, urban planning and architectural support for various urban areas and areas. Wherever possible, cooperative processes were used, mostly in the form of workshops with the involvement of the neighborhood population, study assignments or competitions. He was also responsible for monument preservation and archeology as important parts of strategic urban planning.

The cornerstones of his planning and development work were the four relevant urban planning dimensions of sustainability: “economic performance”, “economical use of resources”, “ social participation ” and “architectural heritage” as well as high -quality internal densification.

Since October 2016, Patrick Gmür has been co-owner of the architecture firm Gmür & Geschwentner AG, which he originally founded. In November 2016 he was also elected chairman of the Stuttgart urban planning advisory board.

Patrick Gmür also judges competitions, for example for the new Hardturm stadium in Zurich or for the development of the SRF Zurich Leutschenbach location, and gives lectures on architectural and urban planning topics at home and abroad.
