Patrick Kelly (bishop, 1938)

Patrick Altham Kelly (born November 23, 1938 in Morecambe , Lancashire , United Kingdom ) is Archbishop Emeritus of Liverpool .

Life

Kelly was a seminarian at the Pontifical English College in Rome and was ordained a priest on February 16, 1962 . He served as a priest in Lancaster from 1962 to 1964. In 1964 he became a lecturer in theology at St. Mary's College, Oscott, Birmingham. In 1979 he became rector of the college.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Salford on March 9, 1984 . He was ordained episcopal by the bishop emeritus of Salford, Thomas Holand , on April 3, 1984. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Liverpool, Derek Worlock , and the Archbishop of Birmingham , Maurice Noël Léon Couve de Murville .

On May 21, 1996, John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Liverpool. On February 27, 2013, Benedict XVI. his resignation.
