Johannes Macias
Johannes Macias (born March 2, 1585 in Ribera del Fresno , Spain , † September 16, 1645 in Lima , Peru ) was a Spanish Dominican and saint .
Life
Because of the early death of his parents, Johannes grew up with his uncle. In 1619 he went to Colombia , three years later he emigrated to Peru. In Lima he joined the Dominican order as a lay brother and worked at the gate of the monastery for 23 years . There he was characterized by his modesty and a deep love for the poor and sick. Allegedly, he should have known during his lifetime on what day and at what hour he would die.
Pope Paul VI canonized John Macias on September 28, 1975 . His feast day in the Catholic Church is September 16 .
