Patrick Nothomb (born May 24, 1936 in Schaerbeek , † March 18, 2020 in Habay-la-Neuve ) was a Belgian diplomat .

Professional career

Patrick Nothomb received his doctorate in law from the Université catholique de Louvain (1834–1968) in 1957 . From 1960 to 2001 he worked in the Belgian government's foreign service. Patrick Nothomb is the grandson of the writer Pierre Nothomb, son of Andre Nothomb, nephew of Paul Nothomb, Charles-Ferdinand Nothomb and father of the writer Amélie Nothomb .

From August 4 to November 24, 1964, Patrick Nothomb was the Belgian consul general in Stanleyville . In November 1964, the People's Republic of the Congo was proclaimed, Nothomb fell into the hands of the Maoist Simba and was liberated through Operation Dragon Rouge and Dragon Noir .

From 1968 to 1972 Nothomb was Consul General in Osaka . From 1980 to 1985 he was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels. On the occasion of the presidency of the Italian government in the Council of Europe, Nothomb directed the cultural event Europalia-Italie from 2002 to 2003. From 2004 Nothomb was advisor to the governor of the province of Luxembourg .
