Patrick Unger (basketball coach)

Patrick Unger (born January 21, 1983 in Berlin ) is a German basketball coach .

career

Unger played in the regional league for VfB Hermsdorf , from 2004 to 2006 for TV Lich in the 2nd basketball league , before moving to Canada in 2006. There the 1.97-meter-long winger only played a year for Grant MacEwan University , then in the 2007/08 season for the University of Alberta team . After his return to Germany, Unger played for the second team of TV Lich in the 2008/09 season, then from 2009 to 2011 for VfB 1900 Gießen in the Regionalliga and in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB as well as in the 2011 / 12 finally for the Licher BasketBears in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB.

In January 2013 Unger took over the position of head coach at the women's Bundesliga club BC Marburg , before that he was head of the youth department and coach of the senior league men's team and youth teams. In 2016 and 2017, Marburg reached third place in the German championship under his leadership. From 2016 he also served as the national coach of Germany's female U20 national team .

In spring 2018 Unger led the women of BC Marburg into the final of the Central European Basketball League (CEWL). There one was subject to the Romanian representative CSM Satu Mare . In September 2018, in addition to his duties in Marburg, he took over the position of the German women's national coach , after previously serving as an assistant coach on the DBB team. Unger did not extend his contract in Marburg, which expired at the end of the 2019/20 season. At the beginning of February 2020, he gave up the post of women's national coach, as this post was not compatible with his new job as the youth coordinator of the Gießen 46ers basketball academy (starting in summer 2020), as Unger announced.

His wife Jenny  played in the Bundesliga.
