Patrocínio , officially Portuguese Município de Patrocínio , is a city in the west of the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil .

The city with a good 80,000 inhabitants is on the connection route from Uberlândia to Patos de Minas on the BR-365 in the north of the Triângulo Mineiro , the mining triangle, an agriculturally and industrially well developed region of the country. The distance to the commercial center of Uberlândia in the west is approx. 150 km, Patos de Minas, the corn capital of Brazil, is approx. 75 km to the northeast.

On the northern edge of the city there is an airport, in the east a crater ( Cratera de Patrocínio ) with a diameter of 16 km, which allows the assumption of a meteorite impact.

The place, whose literal translation is patronage , was founded in 1773 by a farm owned by Bandeirantes on the Rio Dourados. The first settlers followed in 1793, and the first chapel in 1800. In 1819 there were 40 mud huts here.
