The Prezelle Patronage Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Prezelle in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . It belongs to the Lüchow-Dannenberg parish of the Hanover regional church . The church has its own parish. The rectory is Trebel.

history

The first church was built on the edge of the round village Prezelle as a fortified church. No details are known about this building, which fell into disrepair in 1715. Plans for a new building were initially not implemented because there were disagreements between the community and the patron, Count von Bernstorff . In 1751/1752 the construction of today's church began in the center of the village. A brick nave was built. In 1774 a sacristy was added . In 1871 the tower was replaced by a new one. In addition, the church was extended to the east and closed with an apse . In 1870 the rectory was built and the cemetery was laid out outside, surrounded by a pine forest.

In the early 1960s, extensive renovation work was carried out, during which stained glass windows were added to the chancel. They depict the Archangel Michael , the symbol of baptism (fish in water) and the Lord's Supper (chalice and grapes).

In the Prezell Church there was a “seating arrangement”. Church visitors from the village of Wirl had the “Wirler stand”, after which they were only allowed to enter the church through the side door.

Environment and trivia

The cemetery with its wall

The elaborately designed outer wall of the cemetery is a listed building . It has been professionally repaired.

The church is designed to be bat-friendly as the attics and towers have openings through which the animals can fly in. In addition, the beams are no longer treated with wood preservatives and construction work is only carried out in late autumn and winter to avoid disturbances during the rearing of the young.
