With patrol boat 16 a series of 14 new will patrol boats for the Swiss motor boat company called.

General

As a replacement for the patrol boats 80 put into service in the 1980s , Armasuisse invited five international boatyards to bid. The tender was won by the Finnish shipyard Marine Alutech, which was able to present a prototype for the evaluation with its Watercat 1250 Patrol . Swiss boat builders initially saw themselves at a disadvantage, but were then involved in equipping the boats. Six boats will be manufactured by the general contractor Marine Alutech in Teijo, Finland, and then fully equipped by Shiptec in Lucerne . For the eight other boats, only the hull is delivered. With this compromise, a large part of the added value remains in Switzerland.

For the procurement of the boats, the corresponding logistics and infrastructure, a volume of 49 million Swiss francs was approved in the 2016 armaments program . The name Patrol Boat 16 refers to this year of the armaments program. After successful verification, the construction of the series was commissioned in July 2018. The first boat was presented to the public at SuisseNautic in February 2019 and delivered in May 2019.

The christening of the first four boats with the names Venus , Uranus , Saturn and Antares took place on June 15, 2019 in Lucerne. Initially, the boats will mainly be used to train future crews. The last boat in the series is scheduled to go into service at the beginning of 2021.
