Paua is a small settlement in the Far North District of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .
geography
The settlement is located around 26 km southeast of Cape Reinga on a headland that extends into Parengarenga Harbor . The natural harbor's Snipe Bay is north of the headland and Ngutukorari ' Bay is south of it.
The settlement can be reached via a 6 km long gravel road from New Zealand State Highway 1 . The closest settlements are Te Hapua on the other side of Snipe Bay and Te Kao around 13 km south. It is around 85 km to drive to the next larger town in the south to Kaitaia .
