The Paul Gerhardt School is a Protestant private school with locations in Hanau and Kahl am Main . The sponsor is the Christian School Association Hanau und Kahl e. V. , which runs two schools that are managed together, but are legally independent due to their location in different federal states.

The school is named after the important hymn poet Paul Gerhardt . The Paul Gerhardt School is attended by a total of 1,100 students, 640 of them at the Hanau site and 470 at the Kahl site.

Due to the popularity of the school, the number of registrations regularly far exceeds the capacity.

Locations

The Hanau site is located between Wolfgang and Großauheim in the former middle school , which was built as part of the New Argonner Kaserne in 1989 and was used by members of the American armed forces stationed in Hanau. The school building is surrounded by extensive green areas. The Kahl location uses the premises of the former Heideschule , which was reopened as a secondary school in 1973, but had to close again in 1991 due to a lack of students.

The Paul-Gerhardt-Schule has four school bus routes of its own that cover Hanau and numerous surrounding communities and transport students to and from the locations in Hanau and Kahl. The costs for using the school bus must be paid separately and are staggered according to distance. In principle, both locations can also be reached with public lines. The Kahl location is in the immediate vicinity of the Kahl train station on the Main-Spessart-Bahn , which is served by local trains from Hanau. The Hanau location has been accessible via the In den Tannen stop on line 6 since 2015 .

history

In 1985 the then Christian School Association Hanau e. V. founded in order to be able to offer a Protestant school in Hanau. It started as a primary school with two classes in the Christ Church . In 1986 the school moved into the school building of what was then the Dietrich Bonhoeffer School in Dörnigheim . In 1989 the school opened a support level . In 1990 the primary school in Hesse was recognized as a substitute school, at the same time the school moved to Großauheim . But even there the premises were soon no longer sufficient and so the school was moved to the Bavarian town of Kahl am Main, where the building of the former Heideschule could be used, initially only partially, and then in full from 1995. In 1996 the business school started in Kahl. In 2001 the school was finally recognized as a substitute school in Bavaria.

Soon afterwards there were plans to reopen a school in Hanau. In 2007 the school in Hanau finally started as a primary school and grammar school in downtown Hanau in the building of a former carpet factory. With the withdrawal of the American troops from Hanau in 2010 the opportunity arose to move into the former Middle School of the New Argonner Kaserne between Wolfgang and Großauheim , which was only built in 1989 . This offered a four times larger usable area and thus enabled the opening of the secondary school branch in 2011 as the youngest branch of the school.

School types

At the Hanau location, primary school, secondary school and grammar school are offered. The grammar school originally started as a G8 grammar school, with the 2014/2015 class the Paul Gerhardt school switched to G9. Primary school, secondary school and business school are offered at the Kahl location. Business school graduates can then obtain their Abitur in Hanau.

The Paul Gerhardt School is an open all-day school . Lessons are shortened on hot days so that the students can be sent home at 12 noon without having to accept major class cancellations.

School fees

A monthly tuition fee is required in both schools. A one-time administration fee of € 75 must also be paid for all types of schools at all schools.

Hanau

For the primary school, the school fee is € 140 for the first child and € 90 for the second child; from the third child onwards, school attendance is free. For the Realschule and the Gymnasium, the school fee is 180 € for the first child, 120 € for the second child and 70 € from the third child.

Due to the regulations of the Hessian constitution , the school offers needy families an interest-free loan of 1500 € for the first two children, which covers the entire school period. Childcare and school bus costs must be paid separately.

Bald

In Kahl, school fees are generally only charged for the first two children for all types of school; school attendance is free from the third child.

For primary school, the monthly school fee is € 130 for the first child and € 80 for the second child. For the Hauptschule, the school fee is € 150 for the first child and € 80 for the second child. When attending business school, the tuition fee is € 165 for the first child and € 105 for the second child.

Trivia

The educational offer includes working groups in the musical and sporting field, sports, a gospel choir at the Kahl location and a school band. The 10-hour run takes place regularly in Hanau and Kahl , during which various teams collect money for the school through sponsors. Part of the proceeds will go to charitable projects. Examples of these projects are those of the former district administrator of the Main-Kinzig district Karl Eyerkaufer in Sri Lanka .
