Karl Eyerkaufer

Karl Eyerkaufer (born March 3, 1940 in Landshut ) is a German former athlete, Hessian politician ( SPD ) and member of the Hessian state parliament and district administrator of the Main-Kinzig district .

education and profession

After attending secondary school in Lindau , Eyerkaufer graduated from high school in 1960 and studied at the University of Frankfurt with the aim of teaching. From 1966 he worked as a teacher.

athlete

As a middle distance runner, he started for TSV 1850 Lindau, FSV Frankfurt and towards the end of his sporting career for SV Schwalbe Hanau. In 1961 he became German champion in the 1,500 meter run and with the Frankfurt 3 x 1,000 meter relay. The following year he won the forest run title . In the hall he was German champion over 1500 meters in 1964 and 1968. Internationally, he started on his special course at the Universiaden in 1961 and 1963, where he finished eighth and fifth. At the European Indoor Games in 1966 , he came fourth. Even as a runner he was a focus of the training groups for the middle distance athletes, organized the FSV Frankfurt championship relay with runners from originally three different clubs, helped u. a. The GDR runner Jürgen May first entered into a contract with the sports shoe manufacturer Puma that contradicted the amateur conditions at the time , but after its ban also to flee the GDR and was considered a small entrepreneur in the field of athletics.

In 1965, Eyerkaufer joined the SPD. In 1968 he became a member of the Hochstadt community council and the district council of the Hanau district and later the Main-Kinzig district . In 1974 he was a brief member of the Hessian state parliament from October 2 to November 30. From 1987 to June 18, 2005 he was District Administrator of the Main-Kinzig district.

The attempt to become a candidate for the Bundestag failed. Eyerkaufer lost to Bernd Reuter .

Other offices

He was twice President of the Savings Banks and Giro Association Hesse-Thuringia .

He is chairman of the advisory board of the Children's Future Foundation in Gründau .

Help for Beruwala

After the earthquake in the Indian Ocean in 2004 and the following tsunami , Eyerkaufer initiated an aid campaign in the entire Main-Kinzig district for the affected population in Beruwala and the surrounding area in Sri Lanka and for reconstruction there. Ten years after the event, in 2014 he reported on the successes and the future of the continued aid.

Honors

In 2005 he received the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class from Prime Minister Roland Koch .
