Paul Alfred Weiss

Paul Alfred Weiss (born March 21, 1898 in Vienna , † September 8, 1989 in White Plains , USA ) was an Austrian-American biologist. He made significant contributions to systems theory and introduced a field theory into embryology . He wrote his dissertation in Vienna with Hans Leo Przibram in the Biological Research Institute in the Vienna Prater (" Vivarium ").

Honors

In 1947 Weiss was elected to the National Academy of Sciences , 1953 to the American Philosophical Society, and 1954 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1966 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . In 1979 he received the National Medal of Science for Biology.
