Paul Ballinger

Paul Ballinger (born March 25, 1953 ) is a former New Zealand long-distance runner .

At the World Cross Country Championships in 1977 in Düsseldorf, he came in 65th place.

In 1978 he won the New Zealand Marathon Championships in 2:17:33 h and qualified for the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton , where he came in sixth in 2:17:46 h. In 1979 he finished eighth in the Oregon Track Club Marathon in 2:14:08 h, and in 1980 he won the Wiri Marathon.

The following year, he finished 41st at the 1981 World Cross Country Championship in Madrid. A victory at the New Zealand Marathon Championships was followed by an eleventh place in the Fukuoka Marathon in 2:14:04 hours.

In 1982 he was 57th at the World Cross Country Championships in Rome . In Fukuoka he won with the New Zealand record of 2:10:15 h.

In 1983 he came 27th at the Cross Country World Championships in Gateshead and was fourth in the pre-Olympic marathon in Seoul . In the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki he ran in 27th place, and in Fukuoka he was twelfth.

In 1984 he won the Auckland Marathon, finished 103rd at the World Cross Country Championships in East Rutherford and finished ninth at the Boston Marathon .

A 34th place in the 1985 IAAF World Cup marathon was followed by a tenth place in Fukuoka. In 1988 he was tenth at the Beppu-Ōita Marathon and won the New Zealand Marathon Championships, in 1989 he defended his championship title.

He was New Zealand champion four times in the marathon (1978, 1981, 1988, 1989), three times in the cross country run (1976, 1981, 1982) and once each over 10,000 m (1976) and in the 16 km road run (1983).
