Paul Blair

Paul Blair (born January 1942 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † December 6, 2011 in New York ) was an American journalist , radio presenter and publisher .

Life

Blair first worked as an English teacher as a volunteer with the Peace Corps in Malawi , then for a decade as a freelance journalist in Indonesia , where he met his wife Yessy. For seven years he was in charge of the Voice of America's daily radio program in Africa . He wrote mostly about music, food and Americana , especially jazz and New York. During the 1990s, his articles appeared regularly in Jazz Notes magazine , the quarterly journal of the American Jazz Journalism Association . In 2002 he founded the company SwingStreets , which offered city tours to jazz venues in New York. From 2003 he was the publisher of the jazz magazine Hot House . Blair last lived in Bay Ridge , Brooklyn .

Paul Blair died of a heart attack on December 6, 2011, one month before his 70th birthday.
