Paul Czermak

Paul Czermak (born December 28, 1857 in Brno , Moravia, † March 2, 1912 in Innsbruck ) was a physicist and professor of physics at the University of Innsbruck .

Czermak was the son of the psychiatrist Joseph Czermak . As a result of a sickly youth, he only received his doctorate in philosophy at the age of 28 in Graz , continued his studies in Prague , Vienna and Strasbourg and then became Ludwig Boltzmann's assistant in Graz .

In 1896 he was appointed associate professor in Graz and in the following year full professor for cosmic physics and meteorology. From 1897 he belonged to the Natural Scientific Medical Association in Innsbruck. After Ignaz Klemenčič's death in 1901, he became his successor at the University of Innsbruck as professor of experimental physics and head of the physical institute, with which he moved to the new building on Schöpfstrasse in 1904/05. For health reasons he was on maternity leave from 1906 and retired in 1910.

In 1900 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

The district manager and doctor Hans Czermak was his son.
