Paul Fine

Carl Eduard Paul Feine (born September 9, 1859 in Golmsdorf , † August 31, 1933 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Paul Feine was the son of a school principal. After attending grammar school in Eisenach , he studied mainly classical philology and Protestant theology in Jena and Berlin from 1879 . He received his doctorate in Jena with the work De Aristarcho Pindari interprete . After completing his teaching degree, he worked for a short time as a teacher at a grammar school. Afterwards he was a tutor for Prince Wied for a few years . Then he worked as a high school teacher in Göttingen. In 1893 the habilitation for the New Testament took place in Göttingen. In 1894 he became professor for Protestant theology of the New Testament in Vienna, in 1907 he succeeded William Wrede in Breslau and in 1910 he succeeded Erich Haupt as professor in Halle .

Its introduction to the New Testament, which comprises a good two hundred pages and which has been revised by Johannes Behm since the 8th edition (1936), was widely used . One research focus was the apostle Paul . This research culminated in the presentation of The Apostle Paul in 1927 . The struggle for the historical understanding of Paul . He had two sons, the legal and church historian Hans Erich Feine and the German ambassador Gerhart Feine .
