Erich Haupt

Karl Friedrich Erich Haupt (born July 8, 1841 in Stralsund , † February 19, 1910 in Halle (Saale) ) was a Protestant theologian.

Haupt studied at the University of Berlin from 1858 to 1861 , became a grammar school teacher in Kolberg in 1861 and in Treptow ad Rega in 1866 . In 1878 he was appointed full professor of New Testament exegesis at the University of Kiel , in 1882 he moved to the University of Greifswald and in 1888 to the University of Halle . In 1888 he was rector in Greifswald, in 1902 in Halle. His most important scientific achievement is the continuation of the critical-exegetical commentary on the New Testament .

Haupt was a member of the general synod of the Evangelical Church in Prussia , where he belonged to the " Evangelical Association " led by Willibald Beyschlag and referred to as the "Middle Party" . From 1902 he was a member of the Magdeburg Provincial Consistory . 1900–1908 he officiated as chairman of the Gustav-Adolf-Verein in the ecclesiastical province of Saxony and was also a member of the central board of the Gustav-Adolf-Verein. He also worked on the board of the Evangelical Union to safeguard German-Protestant interests (today the Evangelical Union ). 1901–1908 he published the “Deutsch-Evangelischen Blätter”, the organ of the “Evangelical Association”.

During his studies in Berlin he became a member of the Christian student union Berliner Wingolf , during his stay in Greifswald he became a member of the Greifswald Wingolf before he recorded the volume of the Halle Wingolf in his last place of residence .

Haupt died in Halle in 1910. His final resting place is in the Laurentius cemetery .
