Life

Frick attended primary school in Lugano . Further education took place at the Ginnasio and Liceo cantonale up to the Matura (type B), also in Lugano. From 1941 to 1947 he studied medicine at the University of Zurich. The dissertation carried out under F. Koller laid the basis for the discovery of previously unknown blood coagulation factors.

In 1948 Frick moved to the USA , where he completed the one-year rotating internship at the Policlinic Hospital in Oklahoma City . This was followed by three years of training as an intern in internal medicine at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis under CJ Watson. He was then promoted to Chief Resident, and after a year he took over the management of the internal medical outpatient clinic at the same hospital.

Research in the field of blood coagulation, which was carried out in parallel with clinical activities, laid the foundation for earning a Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota (1955). Two years of clinical and scientific activity at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC (1955 to 1957) followed.

After his return to Switzerland, Frick accepted the position of senior physician at the medical university clinic at PH Rossier (1957 to 1962). In 1960 he completed his habilitation in internal medicine. From 1961 he was a member of the board of directors of the Association of Zurich Internists (until 1973). In 1962 he was promoted to associate professor. On April 15, 1969, he took over the management of the Medical University Clinic in Zurich with a simultaneous doctorate to full professor. For the period from 1972 to 1974 Frick was elected dean of the medical faculty. He retired on October 15, 1990. From November 1990 to September 2009 Frick worked in his own practice as a specialist FMH for internal medicine.

From 1984 to 1986 Frick was President of the Swiss Society for Internal Medicine (SGIM). From 1969 to 1973 and 1985 to 2003 he presided over the blood donation committee of the Zurich section of the Swiss Red Cross . From 1985 to 2008 he was a board member of the Bonizzi Theler Foundation and the Fondazione San Salvatore.
