Justin Scott

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Justin Scott (born 1944 in New York City , New York ) is an American writer. Scott has written 23 thrillers and detective novels to date, including a series of five preliminary novels about Ben Abbott, a Newbury investigator. His best known pseudonym as an author is "Paul Garrison". He has written five novels under this name so far, all of which are set on the high seas. But Scott also writes novels under his real name that are closely related to the sea. Because of this preference for the sea and ships, Scott is referred to as " Dick Francis of yachting" in the English-speaking world .

Scott has also written other crime novels under the pseudonyms JSBlazer and Alexander Cole .

Scott now lives in Newtown, Connecticut with his wife, Amber Edwards , a filmmaker.

Justin Scott's best-known novel is The Shipkiller , I kill the ship . 1990 under the pseudonym Paul Garrison Scott wrote a sequel titled Fire and Ice , dt. Cold Fire . The action begins ten years after the end of the first book, with the same characters, but given a different name. The reason for the (then first) use of this pseudonym originated from Henry Morrison, the manager of Justin Scott. Scott was introduced as a crime writer after his five novels around Ben Abbott and, as Morrison feared, would not appeal to the readers as a thriller writer. Justin Scott became Paul Garrison, a Hong Kong businessman.

Live and act

Justin Scott was born in Manhattan in 1944 but grew up on Long Island in a family of professional writers: his father A. Leslie Scott , has written around 250 western novels under a variety of pseudonyms; his mother Lily K. Scott wrote for several genres: novels, love stories, but also short stories for dime books. Scott's sister is also a writer: Alison Scott Skelton , together with her husband CL Skelton .

Before Scott made a living as a writer, Scott worked as a boatman, drove trucks, built beach houses on Fire Island , worked in a bar in Hell's Kitchen, and published a magazine for electrical engineers.

Scott holds a number of degrees in American history ( Bachelor and Master degrees ). To research his novels, Scott has traveled extensively to Russia, China and Scotland.

The reason Scott used pseudonyms early in his writing career is because a writer shouldn't appear too productive back then. Young and full of action, Scott wrote four novels in his first year as an author. At the time, however, speed was equated with an inexact assembly line writer.
