Paul Geilsdorf

Paul Geilsdorf (born June 10, 1890 in Plauen , Vogtland , † January 26, 1976 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was a German Protestant church musician and hymn composer .

First he trained at the teacher training college in Reichenbach / Vogtland from 1904 to 1910. From 1913 to 1916 he studied at the Leipzig Conservatory , where he was a student of Karl Straube and Stephan Krehl . From 1917 to 1947 he held the cantor's office in St. Pauli, Chemnitz and from 1947 to 1965 in St. Petri . In 1935 he was appointed church music director. He headed several choir associations, such as the Chemnitzer Bürgergesangverein and the choir of the Erzgebirge Choir and had a decisive influence on the church music life in Chemnitz and Saxony. His work includes oratorio works, song compositions and choral pieces.
