Paul Kumm

Paul Karl Kumm (born November 19, 1866 in Danzig ; † September 14, 1927 there ) was a German botanist and prehistorian .

Life

Paul Kumm visited the Gdansk grammar school at St. Johann, studied from 1884 to 1888 natural sciences at the University of Breslau and was founded in 1889 with its botanical dissertation On the anatomy of some cotyledons in Wroclaw doctorate . Kumm was assistant at the Mineralogical Museum in Breslau until 1889 and assistant at the Botanical Garden and Museum of the Technical University of Karlsruhe until 1891.

He then became a scientific assistant, in 1894 curator and in 1910 as the successor to Hugo Conwentz director of the West Prussian Provincial Museum in Danzig . Paul Kumm worked from 1904 to 1907 as a lecturer in botany at the new Royal Prussian Technical University in Danzig . In 1904 he was awarded the title of professor.

His main focus as a prehistoric was researching the prehistory of the then province of West Prussia, where he led numerous excavations in this area.

He was a member of the Natural Research Society in Danzig , in which he worked from 1911 to 1927 as head of the anthropological department. On August 4, 1904, Paul Kumm was accepted as a member ( matriculation number 3186 ) of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .
