Wayside shrine in Austraße

The wayside shrine in Austraße in Wickendorf , a part of the municipality of the Upper Franconian town of Teuschnitz , is a small monument that was probably originally created in the 18th century.

description

The hall monument was made of yellow sandstone , which may have come from the area around Marktrodach . It stands on a damaged square plinth adorned with garlands on three sides ; the fourth side bears a cartouche with a badly weathered and practically illegible inscription. A round column shaft rises above the base on which a four-sided top with arched gables rests. The base of the essay and the round arches are decorated. Reliefs on the four sides show depictions of the coronation of Mary , the painful Mother of God ( Mater Dolorosa ), St. Michael the Archangel and St. George . The wayside shrine is crowned by a stone ball with a brass cross .

history

The reason for the erection of the wayside shrine, presumably around 1750, is not known, and the exact original location is not known either. The base and top of the Marter, which collapsed over time, were about 100 meters from the current location on the former Fuhrweg to Marienroth , before the wayside shrine was supplemented with the missing column shaft and set up again in the 1980s. In the mid-2010s, the land monument was again threatened with collapse. After a restoration, in which the lost crowning was supplemented with a stone ball with a cross, the new construction took place in August 2016 at the current location on the north side of the Austraße.
