Paul Ludwig Stein

Paul Ludwig Stein (born February 4, 1892 in Vienna , † May 2, 1951 in London ) was an Austrian actor and film director .

Life

Stein already appeared in 1910 as Ludwig Stein at the Reinhardt-Bühnen in Berlin in A Midsummer Night's Dream . For four years he embodied comical characters there, especially in Shakespeare plays. He also wrote his own plays.

He first appeared in front of the camera in Sugar and Cinnamon in 1915, and made his directorial debut in 1918. He made several silent films for his own stone film and other production companies. Occasionally he also acted as a co-screenwriter.

In 1926 he went to the USA and continued his career as a film director there. His greatest successes came when he moved to Great Britain in 1933. Richard Tauber was repeatedly the focus of his productions.
