Paul Merzbach

Paul Merzbach (born November 27, 1888 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , † September 1943 in London , United Kingdom ) was an Austrian dramaturge , theater director , screenwriter , film director and editor .

Life

Paul Merzbach studied in Vienna and Berlin and graduated with a doctorate . From 1911 he worked at the Wiener Neuen Volkstheater as a dramaturge and stage director. He later also worked at the Wiener Neustadt City Theater .

He has been a scriptwriter since 1921, and from 1924 onwards he occasionally received directorships. Merzbach reached the peak of his career in Sweden, where he lived from 1926 to 1932. With Glücksmelodie (Säg det i toner) he was involved as a writer on the first Swedish sound film in 1929. Gustaf Molander staged his fabrics repeatedly , occasionally Merzbach also directed his own, including the first two films with Zarah Leander .

In 1932 he returned to Germany, but emigrated in 1933 shortly after the seizure of power by the National Socialists. He now lived in Great Britain, where he was still involved in several films as a director and screenwriter.
