Paul Meuter

Paul Meuter (born October 9, 1903 in Solingen , † June 22, 1998 in Dresden ) was a German communist .

Paul Meuter joined the KPD in 1929 . From 1933 to 1935 he was active in the resistance in Solingen. In November 1935 he emigrated to Switzerland , where he worked in the southern section of the KPD. After going into hiding when the war broke out, he was arrested in 1942 and interned in a special camp for so-called left-wing extremists in Gordola in Ticino. From 1944 to 1945 he was active in the Free Germany movement. After returning to Germany in 1945, he was a city councilor for the KPD in Solingen from 1946 to 1951. In 1951 he moved to the GDR on the instructions of the KPD , where he was employed in the City Council for National Education and Culture in Dresden from 1960 until his retirement in 1967. On September 14, 1958, Paul Meuter was awarded the medal for fighters against fascism 1933 to 1945 . In 1988 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.
