Paul Nehls
Paul Nehls (* 1882 in Mannhagen , † 1960 in Schwerin ) was a German architect in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
biography
By 1903 Nehls graduated from the building trade school in Lübeck , one of the predecessor institutions of the Lübeck Technical University . As a construction technician and site manager, he worked in various positions until 1910. With this experience, he worked from 1910 to 1922 as a construction supervisor and as the first city construction manager in the Schwerin building administration. From 1916 to 1918 he served in the military.
Nehls then appeared as a freelance architect. His clients from Schwerin were often the contractors who carried out the structures he planned. Outstanding buildings are the office building at Schloßstraße 32/34 from 1928, the office building at Schloßstraße 39 from 1931 and his apartment and studio building at Puschkinstraße 8 from 1934, where he lived until his death. These buildings are under monument protection in Schwerin . In 1951 he planned the stage for the knight's hall in the building at Schloßstraße 9/11 .
Alongside Hans Stoffers and Erich Bentrup, Nehls was the defining architect in Schwerin for the short stylistic epoch of New Objectivity . He used a traditional north German brick, often in bands in plastic brick layers.
