Paul O'Neill (born February 23, 1956 in New York City - † April 5, 2017 ) was an American composer , lyricist , guitarist and music producer , who was mainly known through his work with the heavy metal band Savatage and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra became known.

Career

O'Neill began his career as a guitarist in smaller bands until he ventured into the professional music business about 20 years ago as a tour guitarist for the musicals Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair . Between 1980 and 1985 he worked for Leber-Krebs inc., A music production company that produced bands such as Aerosmith , AC / DC and Michael Bolton , among others . In the 1980s he mainly worked as a rock promoter in Japan .

In 1986 he began to concentrate fully on songwriting and producing. For example, he produced the Aerosmith album Classics live I and II and the Savatage album Hall of the Mountain King . In further collaboration with Savatage, he developed his own style of rock opera , which was evident in the albums Streets - A Rock Opera and Dead Winter Dead .

Together with Jon Oliva and Robert Kinkel he founded the Trans-Siberian Orchestra , a music project that combines elements of classical and rock music . He is the producer, co-composer and lyricist for this band.

He died of a chronic illness.
