Hermann Paul Pawlowitsch (born May 13, 1864 in Berlin ; † November 5, 1930 ) was a German trade unionist , metal worker and political activist .

After initially being a member of anarchist groups, he became a member of the SPD in 1907 . As a member of these groups he was an opponent of Gustav Landauer . Pavlovich was a trained locksmith and lathe operator and worked as a machine operator.

Pavlovich was an author, speaker and co-editor of anarchist magazines. He was co-editor of the magazine Der Sozialist and co-founder of the magazine "Neues Leben". He archived numerous political magazines and newspapers from the turn of the century, such as “The Socialist”, the “New Life”, “The Free Worker”, the successor to the New Life, and the Berlin “Anarchist” and the “Anti-Anarchist”. Pavlovich's estate was long lost. It was not found again until 2011 and ended up in the antiquarian bookshop . A small part of the estate with correspondence is in the archive of social democracy of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung .

Life

Since 1891 he was a member of the German Metalworkers Association . In 1892 Pavlovich moved to Neu-Weissensee . At that time he had three previous convictions, including begging and grievous bodily harm . At first he was a member of the “Independent Socialists”, and in the early 1890s he was noticed by the police as an anarchist. He appeared as a speaker at anarchist gatherings in Neu-Weissensee . As a result of these speeches and articles in anarchist magazines, Pavlovich was arrested several times in 1894: first of all, in mid-February he was sentenced to three months in prison for an article in the magazine "Sozialist" . A few weeks later he was sentenced to an additional nine months in prison for a speech made on February 1, 1894.

As an agitator, Pavlovich was a "key figure in the anarchist scene" in Berlin in the period before 1900 and spoke in Berlin, Stuttgart and Munich , sometimes in front of thousands of listeners. In addition to Gustav Landauer, Pavlovich was a delegate of the Berlin Anarchists at the International Socialist Congress in London in the summer of 1896. The dispute between the various factions was mainly about the assessment of the cooperative idea. Since the conflict could not be resolved, Pavlovich founded the newspaper "Neues Leben" in 1897 to compete with the magazine "Sozialist", which followed Gustav Landauer's line.

In 1901 Pawlowitsch founded the "Association of Liberal Socialists Berlin and Surrounding Area" (VFSB) together with Rudolf Lange and Albert Dräger. In 1902 he became an employee of the "Bureau of the Plenipotentiary of the Local Assembly of the German Metalworkers Association", a post that was paid at 165 marks a month. He stopped working as the head of the magazine "Neues Leben" and then gradually broke away from the anarchist movement. In 1907 he became a member of the SPD , in 1924 he became a member of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold .

Pavlovich probably died in Brandenburg an der Havel .
