Paul Redlich
Paul Redlich (born January 17, 1893 in Braunschweig , † March 3, 1944 in Brandenburg-Görden ) was a German politician of the Weimar Republic and member of the Reichstag ( KPD ) from 1930 to 1933. He was a resistance fighter against the National Socialist regime .
Life
After attending primary school, he did an apprenticeship as a painter in Holzminden between 1907 and 1911 . Redlich then worked in this profession and was organized as a free trade union since 1912. Between 1914 and 1918 he took part in the First World War. After the First World War, he joined the KPD in 1920, where he took on numerous functions. From 1928/29 Redlich became involved in the revolutionary trade union opposition . From mid-1931 he was Gauleiter of the unit association of agricultural and forest workers (EVLF), a "red" RGO association in the RGO district of Brandenburg-Lausitz-Grenzmark-Altmark.
Between 1924 and 1932 Redlich was a city councilor for the KPD, initially in 1924 and 1929 as an unpaid councilor for the city of Brandenburg an der Havel and from 1925 to 1929 at the same time as a member of the Brandenburg Provincial Parliament . On November 17, 1929 he became a member of the Brandenburg Provincial Committee; he remained in this position until 1932. He was elected to the Reichstag in 1930 (5th electoral period) for constituency 4 (Potsdam I); he was a member of parliament until 1933.
After the National Socialists came to power , Redlich was imprisoned in the Sonnenburg concentration camp from February 1933 to January 1934 . After his release he was under surveillance by the Gestapo . Redlich died in the Brandenburg hospital as a result of imprisonment in the concentration camp. The official causes of death were tuberculosis and gastric disease.
Commemoration
Since 1992 one of the 96 memorial plaques for members of the Reichstag murdered by the National Socialists has been commemorating Redlich near the Reichstag in Berlin .
