Paul Riegel

Paul Riegel (born September 28, 1926 in Bonn ; † August 2, 2009 there ) was a German entrepreneur and athlete. He was married and has a daughter and three sons.

Life

In 1946, together with his brother Hans (1923–2013), 3½ years his senior, he took over the Haribo company founded in 1920 by his father, Hans Riegel senior . Paul Riegel was mainly responsible for production and technology until his death. Was known u. a. the liquorice snail winding machine he invented .

In order to keep the name of the company, Paul Riegel gave all three sons "Hans" as their first name as a precaution. As a possible successor to his brother Hans Riegel junior, his son Hans-Jürgen Riegel, who was head of the branch in France at the time, was in discussion in 2004 until the breakup between the two of them at the beginning of 2006. After the death of Paul Riegel in 2009, Hans Riegel ran the company together with his sons Hans Arndt Riegel and Hans Guido Riegel.

In addition to working in the company, he had time for a variety of sporting activities. Paul Riegel successfully took part in national and international competitions in badminton , motor boat races (1958–1962), sailing and Olympic rapid fire shooting. In badminton, he won silver in doubles and bronze in singles at the German championships held for the first time in 1953.
