Like almost all British biathletes, Paul Ryan started for the British Army . He started in international biathlon races since the early 1990s. The first and greatest highlight of his career was participation in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , where he was 76th of the individual and 18th in the relay race with Mike Dixon , Kenneth Rudd and Ian Woods . The 76th place in the individual was also Ryan's best result. His best result in the World Cup was a placement three times lower than that.
