Paul Ryan (artist)

Paul Ryan (born 1943 in New York City , † December 17, 2013 in Solebury , Pennsylvania ) was an American video artist .

life and work

Ryan received his bachelor's degree from New York University and then his master's degree from Fordham University . He studied with Marshall McLuhan . Paul Ryan taught at The New School . Ryan's work was featured in the groundbreaking TV as a Creative Medium exhibition at the Howard Wise Gallery in New York in 1969 . Other participants were Nam June Paik , Charlotte Moorman , Ira Schneider , Frank Gillette and Eric Siegel . Ryan was a member of the Raindance media collective .

“Since 1971, I have been concentrating my work on interpersonal relationships and the relationship between people and ecosystems. The results are Threeing (1976) and the Earthscore Notation (1991) - both strategies intended to ensure the survival of mankind. Threeing puts a stop to the dynamic of "two against one" and stabilizes a previously unknown level of cooperation between three or more people. Earthscore creates a common perception of environmental realities. "
