Paul Sevelda

Paul Sevelda (born June 12, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian gynecologist and university professor. Since 2000 he has been President of the Austrian Cancer Aid .

Life

Paul Sevelda was born as the fourth child of Karl and Hedwig Sevelda, one of his two brothers is the bank manager Karl Sevelda . After graduating from high school in 1973, Paul Sevelda studied medicine at the University of Vienna at the Rainergymnasium in Vienna- Margareten , where he received his doctorate in 1979 . He then completed training as a general practitioner at the Hanusch Hospital , and in 1983 he received his decree as a general practitioner . He then trained as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics at the I. University Women's Clinic in Vienna, where he became senior physician in 1987.

In 1991 he became a university lecturer for gynecology and obstetrics at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna (since 2004 Medical University of Vienna ), where he was appointed professor in 1995. In 1997 he was Executive ( violinist ) of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lainz Hospital (later Hietzing Hospital). Since 2000 he has also been President of the Austrian Cancer Aid . In 2006 the Karl Landsteiner Institute for Gynecological Oncology and Senology was founded , headed by Paul Sevelda. Since 2008 he has also been a member of the Supreme Sanitary Council .

In his scientific and clinical work, he deals, among other things, with the surgical and drug treatment of breast cancer and gynecological cancer, early cancer detection , preventive medical check-ups and cancer prevention as well as vaccination against HPV infections. Paul Sevalda's specialties also include breast-conserving therapies for breast cancer and laparoscopic surgery .

At the beginning of February 2018, in his role as President of the Austrian Cancer Aid, together with the President of the Medical Association Thomas Szekeres, he introduced the referendum “Don't smoke” for a smoking ban in the catering industry in the Federal Ministry of the Interior .

Paul Sevelda has been married to Ursula Sevelda since 1979, with whom he has four children.
