Paul Snowden

Paul James Snowden (* 1970 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand action artist and designer .

Between 1989 and 1998 he studied fine arts at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (HFBK) Hamburg. While still a student, Snowden worked for the advertising agency Springer & Jacoby , where he was art director from 1989 to 1991 . Snowden has lived in Berlin since 1999. The city's party, music and fashion scene shapes his work.

Snowden has worked as an art director for several magazines. Among other things, he designed the issue of “Germany” (No. 4) of the Dummy Magazine and received the Lead Award of 2005 for it. The cover of this issue came in 3rd place when the Cover of 2005 was placed. He also designed for Dummy the edition “Advertise & Sell” (No. 13).

Together with Liz McGrath he founded the "New Berlin Fanzine" Bang Bang Berlin , where he worked as art director. The magazine was discontinued after three issues.

Snowden has designed over 200 record covers , mostly for German artists such as Blumfeld , Boys Noize , Turner , Christoph de Babalon , Dirk von Lowtzow and Daniel Haaksman . He has also designed posters and flyers for clubs, films and events.

For the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival , Snowden designed the key visual and all advertising material.

Fashion

In 2005 Snowden founded his t-shirt label Wasted German Youth . The T-shirts are printed with the name of the label in the Futura font. Other motifs were added later: The Kids Want Techno , Minimal My Ass , Berlin Wasted Youth , Brooklyn Wasted Youth and Wasted French Fuck . According to Snowden, his labem is "about hardcore, punk and electronic music, about the beauty and madness of rave culture and about what Berlin does best."

In March 2011, Paul Snowden launched his own beer. Wasted German Beer is a Bioland beer brewed in Bavaria.

music

Together with Christoph de Babalon, Snowden ran the record label 'Cross Fade Enter Tainment' (CFET) for electronic music, more precisely 'Extreme Electronic Noise'. In 1995 he released the split EP 'We Declare War' with de Babalon.

art

Snowden has already shown various solo exhibitions (including in the Sandra Buergel gallery in Berlin-Kreuzberg ). He also established his art in public spaces. When a sneaker manufacturer hung up posters with the slogan “We came to play” in town for the 2006 World Cup, Snowden covered the word “play” with a sticker he had designed that said “fuck”.

Snowden has taken on commissioned work for various companies such as Nokia, Nike, Lacoste and Absolut Vodka.
