Life

Paul Kominek was born in Poland in 1978 and grew up in Frankfurt am Main . Since the early 1990s he has been involved in electronic music such as Chicago house and Detroit techno . He mentions the German record labels Playhouse and Klang Elektronik as well as the early releases of the British IDM labels Warp Records and Rephlex Records as important influences .

After graduating from school, Kominek moved to Hamburg, where he lived in a shared apartment with Tocotronic bassist Jan Müller .

His first single under the pseudonym Turner was released in 1998 on the Hamburg record label Ladomat 2000 . In the same year, Ladomat 2000 was followed by his debut album Lukin Orgel , which mainly contained pop house pieces.

In 2000 the second album Disappearing Brother followed , on which Kominek first experimented with singing. The single Been Out , which was released from the album, developed into a small electro-pop hit.

While Kominek published his club-compatible pieces from then on under the alias Pawel , the quieter pieces belonging to the genre of Indietronic , often with vocals and classical instrumentation, continued to appear under the pseudonym Turner .

In 2000, Kominek founded the record label Dial Records together with the musicians Carsten Jost and Peter M. Kersten (Lawrence) , on which, in addition to the three founders, Pantha du Prince , Efdemin , Phantom / Ghost and Isolée also released.

In 2002 the third Turner album A Pack Of Lies (Ladomat 2000) was released, which Turner presented as the opening act for Tocotronic on their tour for the album Tocotronic .

After a long break, the fourth album Slow Abuse was released in 2005 . The first album as Pawel was released on Dial in 2010.

In the meantime, Kominek devoted himself to acting and took on the role of Paul in Claudia Rorarius ' 2009 film Chi l'ha visto - Where are you .

Also in 2009 he founded the magazine The Travel Almanac with Dial musician John Roberts , which deals with travel from the perspective of well-traveled artists, musicians, writers and filmmakers. The magazine received the German Design Award for best editorial design in 2017.

In addition to his own publications, Kominek is also active as a remixer and has provided reworkings for Yoshinori Sunahara ( Journey Beyond The Stars , 1998), Tocotronic ( The Gift , 1999), Quarks ( Queen , 2000), Golden Boy with Miss Kittin ( Rippin Kittin , 2001), Ellen Allien ( Stadtkind , 2001) or Martin L.
