Tocotronic is the sixth studio album by the German indie rock group Tocotronic , which was released in June 2002.

The self-titled album is due in allusion to the plain white cover The White Album of Beatles frequently White Album called.

style

The album is relatively calm, smooth and melodic compared to older albums, which is mainly due to the lengthy work in the studio. The lyrics are also very different from those of the previous albums. They are kept much more open and therefore leave more space for interpretations by the listener. The slogan-like character of the previous albums, which can also be found partly on the albums after Tocotronic , can only be recognized here in rudiments. So von Lowtzow sings in News from the trickster himself: "One thing is certain: one to one is over now." Only the single This Boy is Tocotronic reminds lyrically and musically of older pieces and breaks out of the basic scheme of the album.

Reviews

In the review by laut.de it says: "Apart from small exceptions (...) the self-titled work sounds old and leaned back throughout. Far removed from the roaring indie rock of the old days (...)" and regarding the lyrics: "' One to one is now over 'is more than a central sentence of the new tocotronic self-definition. "

Plattentests.de criticizes: "Some ideas only come out of the screw clamp after seven minutes, squeezed down to the last drop.", But conclude: "They confuse. And they touch."

The NME writes about the single This Boy is Tocotronic : "Excellent icy electro-guitar-clash-pop".
