After the lost time is the second album by the German indie rock group Tocotronic . It was released on July 31, 1995, just over four months after her debut Digital ist better on L'age d'or .

Content of the songs

In some songs on the album, Tocotronic reflect, among other things, the reception of the previous album Digital is better . So z. B. in the pieces I'm new to the Hamburg school or It's just rock music that reacts to the response in the media. Furthermore, there are personal pieces about friendship and love on the album.

The piece I have to talk, even if I have to be silent and the line contained therein “What you cannot sing about you have to be silent about” refers to the final sentence “What you cannot talk about, you have to be silent about it” from the work Tractatus Logico- Philosophicus by the Viennese philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein . In the piece It is simply rock music , Jan Müller mentions the bands Monster Magnet , Led Zeppelin , HP Zinker , Abwärts , Slime , Kiss , Blumfeld and Frumpy .

Reviews

After the lost time received mostly positive reactions.

In the intro it says in summary: “'After the lost time' is on the one hand […] a résumé and location, on the other hand a very personal record, but above all just rock music. Probably the best that is currently being made in Germany. "With the album, Tocotronic proves" impressively that they not only actually do justice to every standard, but can always get better. "

“As long as you shake love songs like 'You are very well served' or 'I Like You Just Not More So' from your sleeve, you have to expect to win the hearts of hundreds of thousands of high school graduates who are looking for meaning in 'Michael Ende, Du Hast Mein Life Destroyed 'will also find their' My Generation '”, enthuses the author.

In the music magazine Visions (issue no. 39) the album received 11 out of 12 points. The article says "For the most part, [they] are still dissecting with relish and moaning the teenage / twentieth misery in all its forms and facets." The judgment is made on this concept: "It still works."

successes

The album was and is overshadowed by its highly acclaimed predecessor Digital is better . Today the tracks on the album are rarely played live. In 1995 Tocotronic was voted the best newcomer and the third best band in the Spex .
