Paul Theissen

Paul Theissen (* 1937 in Aachen ) is a German pianist , conductor and choir director .

Life

Theissen studied piano , conducting and composition as well as trombone and double bass at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . In Aachen he passed the A-exam in organ .

From 1961 to 1966 he was a repetitor at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and from 1967 to 1973 he was a conductor and from 1969 a director of studies at the State Theater in Mainz . In addition, from 1974 to 1980 he was conductor and solo coach at the Stadttheater Bern . In 1980 he became the first Kapellmeister at the Landestheater Coburg . From 1982 to 1985 he was General Music Director there . He then lived for three years in the USA, where he worked with the symphony orchestras in Tennessee and Riverside. In 1991 he became musical director at the Vogtland-Theater Plauen .

He is friends with the pianist Michael Ponti .
