Pauline Schanz

Pauline Schanz ( born Pauline Leich ; born September 10, 1828 in Leipzig , † April 19, 1913 in Berlin ) was a German writer .

Life

Pauline Schanz was born in Leipzig as the daughter of the well-known and wealthy bookseller Johann Friedrich Leich . The financial ruin of the father hit Pauline Schanz in adolescence. She decided to train as an educator, for which she went to Chemnitz for two years . After her father's death, Pauline Schanz moved to her mother's home in Dresden , where she married the writer Julius Schanz in 1853 . In addition to two other children, the marriage also had their daughter Frida Schanz , born in 1859 , who later worked successfully as a writer.

After the divorce from her husband, Pauline Schanz moved to Berlin with her three children. She refused to marry again, which would have meant separation from her children. Pauline Schanz wrote mainly youth writings, but also worked as a translator from French, Italian, Spanish, English, Swedish and Danish. As a single mother, she provided for the family's maintenance. She died in Berlin in 1913.
