Pauline Soltau

Pauline Soltau , b. Suhrlandt (born June 30, 1833 in Ludwigslust ; † April 13, 1902 in Schwerin ) was a German violinist and painter .

Life

Pauline Soltau came from a Mecklenburg family of artists. She was the daughter of the court painter Rudolph Suhrlandt and his wife, the lithographer Wilhelmine Suhrlandt (1803–1863). The painter Carl Suhrlandt (1828–1919) was her brother.

She received violin lessons from an early age and went on concert tours in Europe with her father. She also received her first painting lessons from her father. She later went to Paris to study with Édouard Dubufe .

In 1858 she married the economist and politician Friedrich Soltau in Schwerin, but continued to work as a portrait painter.
