Paulinho da Costa (born May 31, 1948 in Rio de Janeiro / Brazil ) is a Brazilian percussionist .

Life

Paulinho da Costa discovered his love for percussion at the age of five by trying out everything that could be used to make any rhythms . He has mastered numerous percussion instruments. Already as a boy he performed with different bands and traveled to concerts in different countries. He moved to the USA in 1972 and his then new Brazilian rhythms were well received. He works mainly as a studio musician in a wide variety of productions.

As a studio musician, Paulinho da Costa has played for numerous greats on the music scene, e. B. for Quincy Jones , Al Jarreau ( All fly home , Tenderness ), Earth, Wind and Fire ( I am, Faces ) Marcus Miller , Andy Narell , Sting , Madonna , Michael Jackson ( Off the Wall , Thriller , Invincible ), Diana Krall (Live in Paris). He has also been involved in the production of film soundtracks such as The Color Purple , Saturday Night Fever and Footloose .
