He was born in Sá da Bandeira in 1965, the son of Angola-born parents of Portuguese settlers. He continues to work as a television journalist in front of the cameras, for example as a reporter at the funeral of Nelson Mandela , where he interviewed his daughter, or in critical reports on the business of ubiquitous reporting on celebrities.

Paulo Salvador is also a successful author, with publications on colonial Angola. After his initial success in 2004 with Era uma vez ... Angola (Eng. Once upon a time ... Angola), the three-volume illustrated book series Recordar Angola (Eng .: Remember Angola) followed , which appeared in several editions. A fourth and final volume in the series has been announced since 2012. In addition, he maintains a mostly nostalgic , bilingual website that deals with Angola up to independence and in particular collects and keeps alive the memories of former residents of Angola. He also maintains a blog on the subject.
