Paulus Götz

Paulus Götz , latinized Paulus Jovius (* around 1570 , location unclear, named Themar and Burgpreppach ; † June 4, 1633 in Ebeleben ) was a German historian and headmaster .

Life

Paulus Götz was born the son of a preacher and studied philosophy in Wittenberg .

In 1618 he became rector of the Graflich Schwarzburg collegiate school in Ebeleben . In addition to his school activities, Jovius worked as a historian. His main work was the Schwarzburg Chronicle (Chronikon Schwarzburgicum). In this work he dealt with the history of the noble family Schwarzburg up to the beginning of the 17th century.

In this area he was a leader in his time. Later, various authors were able to build on his work. The work still serves as an important source in research on the House of Kevernburg-Schwarzburg.
