Pavel Argeyev

Pavel Argeyev ( Russian Павел Владимирович Аргеев , Pawel Wladimirowitsch Argejew ; born March 1, 1887 in Yalta , † October 30, 1922 near Trutnov ) was a fighter pilot in the French and Russian air forces during the First World War .

Life

Pawel Wladimirowitsch Argejew was born on March 1, 1887 in Yalta as the son of the machinist Vladimir Akimowitsch Argejew. After graduating from the Odessa Military Academy , he joined the Reserve Infantry Regiment 184, stationed in Warsaw , in 1909 . In 1912 he was promoted to lieutenant and transferred to the 29th Chernigov Infantry Regiment.

War effort

Argeyev had left Russian military service and settled in France. After the outbreak of World War I, he joined the French Foreign Legion on September 12, 1914 . As a lieutenant he was transferred to the 131st Infantry Regiment. He took part in the Battle of the Marne , in which he was badly wounded. After further injuries, he asked for a transfer to the Armée de l'Air . After training in Pau , he received his pilot's license on January 30, 1916. After his assignment in the Escadrille 48, he returned to Russia on October 20, 1916. He was promoted to captain and transferred to the 12th Hunting Detachment, where he flew a Nieuport 17 . In the course of the Russian Revolution, there was increasing hostility towards the officers. So Argeyev moved back to the Armée de l'Air in May 1918. Until the end of the war he was in the Escadrille 124, which was equipped with SPAD S.XIII . He achieved 15 confirmed aerial victories.

post war period

After the bad experiences during the revolution, he did not want to return to the Soviet Union . He worked as a test pilot. On October 20, 1922, he was killed in a crash near Trutnov in the Giant Mountains .
