Pavel Mareš (born January 18, 1976 in Otrokovice ) is a former Czech football player.
Career
Mareš played in his youth for Jiskra Otrokovice, VTJ Hulín and Baník Ratíškovice . At the beginning of 1997 he moved to the then second division club FC Zlín , where he was regularly used in defense. In early 1999 he went to Bohemians Prague , where he developed into one of the best left-backs in the Czech Republic. That escaped neither national coach Karel Brückner , who made him debut in a friendly against Hungary on February 12, 2002 , nor Sparta Prague , who signed him in January 2002. At Sparta, however, Mareš only stayed a year and moved to Zenit St. Petersburg at the beginning of 2003 , which was then coached by his former coach Vlastimil Petržela . There Mareš belonged to the tribe and made 78 games and nine goals in three years.
At the end of August 2006, Mareš was facing a move to the Bolton Wanderers in the English Premier League , but ultimately failed due to physical tests. At the beginning of 2007 Mareš moved to Sparta Prague. For the professional team, however, he only played two games and was otherwise used in the B team. At the end of January 2009, Sparta dissolved the contract with the defender. In early February 2009 Mareš moved to the second division club FC Vysočina Jihlava . Since 2010 Mareš has played for the fifth division club FC Přední Kopanina.
National team
Mareš was part of both the roster for the 2004 European Championship and the 2006 World Championship .
