Your position was determined from aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy in December 1946 during Operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1955 after the American naturalist and artist Titian Peale (1799-1885), a participant in the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842) led by polar explorer Charles Wilkes .
